David Smith Obituary

David Leo Smith, born on August 18, 1955, passed away on November 4, 2025. He was a respected Tool & Die maker, dedicating many years of his life to perfecting his craft and mentoring numerous co-workers and apprentices. David was well appreciated for his expertise and generosity in sharing his knowledge.

A graduate of Bishop David High School, David was known for his vibrant personality. A true jokester at heart, he had the remarkable ability to bring smiles to those around him. His warm demeanor and thoughtful advice made him beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

David took great pride in his accomplishments, particularly his journey of recovery. He celebrated over 30 years as a recovering alcoholic, during which he was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, offering support and guidance as a sponsor to many individuals seeking their own paths to recovery.

In addition to his professional and personal achievements, David cherished his time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing at Rough River, creating precious memories with his family and grandson, Gavin. David also relished playing board games and cards, often bringing joy and laughter to gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Smith; brothers, William Smith and Bryan Smith and his sister, Peggy Smith. 

David leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 37 years, Barbara Smith; daughter, Ronda Smith; grandson, Gavin Smith; siblings, Richard (Helen) Smith, Tony (Sandy) Smith, Michael (Sharon) Smith, Bruce Smith, Betty (John) Ficks, Sally Wathen and Elaine (Jim) Phelps and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY, 40272. The visitation will take place on November 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on November 13, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on November 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM, concluding at the same location.

David Leo Smith will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering support for those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
