David Scott Smith, born on January 11, 1990, in Naples, Italy, passed away on January 10, 2026, in Virginia Beach, VA, just one day shy of his 36th birthday. Although his time with us was brief, his impact was profound and far-reaching.

David's journey through life was marked by an unyielding sense of adventure and an unwavering commitment to community. He found fulfillment in his work at Tabet Manufacturing, where he formed lasting friendships that continued to enrich his life. His time spent in the shipyard honed his skills and showcased his natural ability to bring people together through shared endeavors.

Music was the heartbeat of David's world. Whether attending concerts, singing his heart out at karaoke nights, or simply sharing playlists with friends, he cherished every connection forged through melody. David never met a stranger, turning acquaintances into lifelong friends through his genuine warmth and kindness. His love for Legos demonstrated his creativity and patience-qualities that extended into every aspect of his life.

David's writing revealed another facet of his talent, as he inspired those around him with his words. Known for his infectious humor and quick wit, he could effortlessly lighten any room with laughter. A true foodie, he savored every culinary experience, sharing his passion for good food with those he loved.

From his early fascination with Pokémon to his adult life, David remained true to the things that brought him joy. He was incredibly handy, always ready to lend a helping hand with tasks around the house, embodying the spirit of generosity and support.

Though not affiliated with any particular faith, David's life was a testament to the principles of kindness, integrity, and compassion. His presence was a beacon of positivity, and his legacy is one of love and friendship.

David is survived by his devoted parents, Tacie (Robert) Phillips and Scott B. (Melanie Day) Smith; his brothers, Jeff Gawer (Erin) and Steven Smith; his sister, Jennifer Martin; his step-sister, Erin Smith; and his nieces, Alana, Amara, Arianna, and Alyssa. He also leaves behind his cherished cat, Jo, who was a constant source of comfort and companionship.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, whose memories he held dear.

A service to celebrate David's life will be held at the Church of the Messiah, located at 816 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320, on January 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. We invite all who knew and loved David to join us in honoring his memory and celebrating the remarkable person he was.
