David "Sonny" Guyon Boothe

 

A Graveside Service for David “Sonny” Guyon Boothe, 80, will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Rose-Neath Cemetery 5185 Swan Lake Road, Bossier City, Louisiana, at 2:30 p.m. A visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, Louisiana, from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Pastor Mark Briggs.

David “Sonny” Guyon Boothe was born on July 4, 1943, in Harrisonburg, Louisiana, to David Edward Boothe and Daisy Belle Guyon Boothe and earned his wings on Saturday, December 23, 2023, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

David was one of six siblings raised on the Ouachita and Boeuf Rivers. He grew up on the rivers helping the family with commercial fishing, catching a multitude of fish such as alligator gar and catfish.

In 1961, David joined the United States Army completing basic training in Fort Hood Texas, then on to Aberdeen, Maryland for diesel mechanic training, October 1961 he flew to Germany becoming a member of the 14th Armored Calvary Regiment’s 15th Ordnance Co in Fulda, Germany. His additional training in diesel mechanics was completed with a short stent in Hanau, Germany in February 1962. His service as a specialist continued in Fulda with heavy equipment mechanic work and heavy wrecker driving. His quick thinking and action with a fellow soldier while driving the Army wrecker saved the life of an 8-year-old boy in a tragic highway accident. David was awarded the 14th Armored Calvary Regiment Certificate of Achievement for his selfless act with a commendation from his captain and appreciation from Fulda neighbors.  David completed his service in 1965 as a member of the 526th Ordnance Co – Sixth US Army in Fort Irwin, California.

After his service, he continued working as a mechanic like his father and worked at various establishments. David helped set up the General Motors Shreveport Assembly Plant for production and retired there as a millwright. His craft and skills are carried on by his son, grandson, and nephews.

David loved hunting, fishing, being on the water, and everything outdoors. He also shared his mother’s wonder of God’s gift of flowers and plants.  Pet raccoons, horses, raising Beagles, and Catahoula Cur dogs were also a joy to him. His passion for late 60s and early 70s Ford Broncos and Mustangs is something he spent treasured time sharing with his son David Jr. His love of music was experienced in dancing across the Ark-La-Tex, attending concerts, and playing various instruments including guitars, harmonicas, and accordions. Music was a family gift handed down and shared with many other talented family musicians and singers. David especially loved Cajun music and made numerous trips to South Louisiana Cajun country.

With his outgoing personality and sense of humor, he loved to make people laugh and smile.  He was quite a prankster. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all of those who knew him.

David “Sonny” Guyon Boothe was preceded in death by his parents, David Edward Boothe and Daisy Belle Guyon Boothe; and brother Rathal Stephen Boothe. Left to cherish his memory are his son,  David “Buddy” Guyon Boothe Jr.; daughters, Betty Ann Boothe, of Carthage, Texas; Jennifer Daniela Scidmore and husband, Scott of Spring Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, Brooke Leigh Russell and fiancé, Dustin, of Carthage, Texas; Austin Cole Russell and wife, Dana of Beckville, Texas; Jordon Rose Scidmore Salvant and husband, Duvy of Clinton, Mississippi; and Ryan Scott Scidmore of Troy, Alabama; greatgrandchildren, Graydon Asher Twomey and Magnolia “Maggie” Katherine Salvant; sisters, Patricia Gail Boothe Kirkland and husband, Wayne of Conroe, Texas; Cynthia Katherine Boothe Carr of Conroe, Texas; and Angelia Mechelle Boothe Brazzell and husband, Paul of Spring, Texas; brother, Anthony Kevin Boothe, and wife, Jill of Bossier City, Louisiana; special nephews Heath Booth and wife, Stacey of Benton, Louisiana and Jason Clint Boothe of  Marlin, Texas along with a host of other nephews, nieces and cousins he loved dearly.

Honoring Sonny as pallbearers will be Austin Russell, Ryan Scidmore, Heath Boothe, Michael Brazzell, Cody Carr, and Ronald Sanders.

Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who looked after David during this time.
