David Michael Spalding “Mike”, went to his Eternal Rest on Saturday July 12, 2025 at his home with his family at his side. He was born March 24, 1944 in Hannibal, Missouri and lived his childhood in Monroe City, Missouri.

Mike is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon; his beloved daughters, Sarah and Deb; and his treasured grandchildren, Michael, Harrison, Morgan, and Kayla. He is also survived by his sisters, Dolores Hill, Rosemary Duesterhaus, Betty Johnson, Teresa Reece, and Nancy Spalding.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Ethel Spalding; his brothers, Dickie Wayne, Jim, and Vince; and his mother-in-law, Wanda Lawrence Moutray.

Mike graduated from Holy Rosary High School, Monroe City, Missouri and received his Associate Degree in Business from St. Louis Community College. His passion for learning was reflected in his everyday life.

Mike served in the Army from June 1965 to June 1967 doing a tour of duty in Vietnam from November 1965 to November 1966. For his service he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, and two Bronze Stars.

Mike began his employment career with Cupples Rubber Company where he was a dedicated employee for over three decades. His work ethic saw him rise to many positions retiring as the Director of Human Resources.

In 1985, Mike and two of his buddies purchased four-hundred and forty-three acres in Philadelphia, Missouri. The property was named SHAR Property. They spent nearly forty years on projects, hunting, fishing, and having family and friends visit. Mike was a true conservationist and was keenly aware of giving back to Mother Nature. This property was recently sold to individuals who will carry on the tradition.

All those who knew Mike knew of his interest in the news including world events, politics, and financial matters. He read the paper everyday from the front page to the last page. Some said he did not read the paper, he consumed it.

Mike leaves behind a legacy of what it means to be a loving, caring, and wonderful person.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Wounded Warrior, Special Olympics, or the charity of the donor's choice will be appreciated.
