David Bertram Stark - age 89 of Gallatin, MO passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, at his home in Gallatin. David was born on October 31, 1935, the son of Bertram Smith and Mary Juanita (Breeden) Stark in Daviess County, MO. David joined the First Christian Church in Gallatin in 1948 and the Gallatin Masonic Lodge #106 in 1958. Following graduation from Gallatin High School in 1954, he served in the United States Air Force in Korea following the Korean War. He then obtained a bachelor's degree in accounting and business from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville. David worked in Kansas City and then went to work for the State Department is Washington DC, where he became a CPA and worked as a civilian comptroller for the AID Program in Vietnam. Returning to Gallatin in 1974, he worked several jobs, including as a deputy sheriff and writing for the local newspaper. He retired from the Missouri Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant. David enjoyed historical research, particularly Stark family history, Daviess County History and the history of the Mormon War in Missouri. He served as a trustee of the Civil Bend Cemetery and the Bertram Stark Scholarship Fund.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jay Don Stark and sister-in-law, Winifred Marie Stark. He is survived by an adopted daughter, Stacy Sprouse; brothers, William Howard Stark of Macon, MO and Allen Lynn Stark (Lyla Jo) of New Bloomfield, MO; nieces, nephews, other extended family and neighbors that loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Civil Bend Christian Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, October 3, 2025, at Civil Bend Christian Cemetery, north of Gallatin. There is no scheduled visitation.
