David A. Stewart, age 81, of Hockessin, DE passed away on March 4th, 2026. Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Margaret Ernestina (Geiger) and John Bartley Stewart, Sr. David graduated from John Dickinson High School as a member of the class of 1963. He went on to work with the Brookside Police Department prior to spending his career working for the New Castle County Police Department, retiring as a Senior Sergeant in 1999. Dave was dedicated to his career as a police officer and was reactivated in 2013 to assist with firearm training of new recruits. Most importantly, he cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren.

David was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Judy Stewart; and his brother, Charles Stewart. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Patricia and Wayne Flaherty, Diana L. Stewart, and David A. Jr. and Maria Stewart; his grandchildren, Daniel, Brittany (James), Michael, Kristiana, and Sean; his great grandchildren, Colton, Owen, and Judy; and his brother, John B. Jr. and Mary Stewart; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A visitation will be held on Friday March 13th from 10 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. with funeral services beginning at 11:30 A.M. at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road Wilmington, DE 19808. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306.
