David D. Stoner, 68 of Mercersburg, PA passed away on Monday, February 12, 2024 in his farm
house surrounded by his family.
Born February 14, 1955 in Waynesboro, he was the youngest of 8, a son of the late John W. and
Carrie Rosenberry Stoner.
Dave graduated from James Buchanan High School in 1973. He starred in football, wrestling, and
track. Following the death of his father, J.W. Stoner in 1969, his mother and 6 brothers formed a dairy
farm corporation: Stoner's Hijos (Sons) Hill Inc., Mercersburg.
Active on the farm from a very early age, he attended to any and all work that needed to be
done on the farm. His favorite job was chopping hay or corn. He loved the outdoors and playing softball,
camping, cooking, spending time with his family and friends, and watching Penn State Football and
Wrestling. He was a recipient of the Master Farmer award in 1976. In 2006, Stoners Hijo's Hill Inc.
received the business of the year award from the Mercersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and also
the FCADC Small Business of the year award. In 2011, the farm was honored for their 50 -year
membership in the Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative.
Dave was a former youth sports coach and established Tuscarora Youth Wrestling (TYW) with his
two close friends and helped establish the youth wrestling culture for over 15 years. He played an
instrumental part of his own sons' high school sports careers, never missing a game to watch his boys
compete.
Dave was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Upton, a member of the PA Farm
Bureau, Two-Top Ruritan, Mercersburg Moose Lodge 1790, and the Mercersburg American Legion Post
517.
Surviving family include his wife of 48 years, Patricia A. McCulloh Stoner, whom he married
December 20, 1975, four children, Andrew D. (Adrienne) Stoner, Kevin W. (Kelly) Stoner, Eric C. (Taylor)
Stoner, and Chad V. (Tiffany) Stoner; 16 grandchildren, MacKenzie, Hannah, Sophia, Jaccob, Kyleigh,
Zachary, Lucas, Kendyl, Allie, Ethan, Alexander, David Taylor, Kerrigan, Samuel, Gwen, and Morgan
Stoner, 3 siblings, Patricia Dent and William Stoner of Chambersburg and Herbert L. Stoner of St.
Thomas.
Dave was preceded in death by brothers R. Gene Stoner, Robert H. Stoner, Jay W. Stoner, and
John R. Stoner.
A viewing will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 from 12:00 – 3:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at
Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, PA.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, February 20 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Church of Christ with Pastor
James Hughes and Pastor Paul Galey officiating and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery,
Mercersburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Truist Bank Account under Patricia Stoner for
benefit of David "Bull" Stoner Scholarship fund.

I will miss Dave very much. I have so many beautiful memories of us all riding our bicycles together. Riding with Dave was a history lesson in the making. He always pointed out all the site. He was a person I will always look up to
