Major David Mckinly Strand (Army retired) affectionately called King David was a good man who loved God and his family and was always willing to help others.
The beloved son of the late Preston Strand, Sr. and Rosa Mae Dickerson Strand, was born on January 8, 1954 in Accomac, Virginia. God in his infinite wisdom, called David from labor to reward on July 6, 2023 at St Joseph Hospital,
Joliet, Illinois.
At an early age, King David accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at Macedonia AME Church in Accomac. He along with his family was instrumental in the music ministry at Macedonia. As a teenager David and several of his brothers spent a great deal of their weekends singing the gospel with The Wondering Four Quartet. David also proved himself to be a fine musician playing the saxophone.
David received his education in the public schools of Accomack County and was a graduate of Onancock High School, graduating with honors. Following high school, David attended Virginia State College, presently Virginia State University, where he also graduated with honors and he joined The ROTC which started his Army Career. After retiring from the Army, he sought out civilian jobs that would allow him to help and serve others. He worked with the Urban League in
Aurora, IL. Thereafter, transitioned to the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). He served at the DHS DuPage office for several years, prior to transferring to the Joliet DHS office, he held that position until his transition to Glory on July 6, 2023.
He was a long time member of DuPage AME Church, Lisle, IL under the leadership of Rev. James F. Miller. He sang in the gospel choir, served on the Usher Board, and Class Leader Council.
His love story started at DuPage AME where he met his wife Kade Lincoln Strand.
On July 5, 2014, King David married the love of his life, whom he affectionately called his Queen, after formally dating for three years.
In 2015, he and his wife visited Victory Cathedral Worship Center, Bolingbrook, IL where they really enjoyed Pastor Norful's teachings and interpretation of God's WORD and its practical application, and they later decided to join the Victory family. He briefly served on the Connectional team and was part of the Devine Connection Life Group under the leadership of Brother Jerry and Sister Lazette Buckley.
David was a family oriented person. He enjoyed spending time with his family, but especially enjoyed making music with them. For several years, he played alongside his siblings.
