David Teggerdine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes – MacDonald Chapel - Howell on Mar. 27, 2026.
David E. Teggerdine, age 93, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2027, in Howell, MI.

Born in Clarkston, Michigan, David was a proud graduate of Hartland High School. He went on to build a life rooted in service, family, and community. David had a deep appreciation for Livingston County, particularly the Howell area, where he dedicated much of his life to serving others. He truly adored being a civil servant and took great pride in the work he did for his community.

David honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to serving others by joining the police force. He went on to serve 23 years with the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. His dedication to public service continued as he served as the former Livingston County Clerk and as a member of the County Board of Review. He was also involved with the Civil War Round Table, served on the Advisory Board for Genesis House in Fowlerville, and was Treasurer of the local branch of the American Cancer Society. His life reflected a genuine commitment to helping others and making a meaningful impact in his community.

David's family was central to his life. He shared an incredible 71 years with his wife, Shirley, whom he married on January 8, 1955, in Fenton, Michigan. Together, they built a life full of love, partnership, and lasting memories. David was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply loved grandfather and great-grandfather.

He enjoyed the simple things in life and the people he shared them with. David was an avid square dancer and spent many years bowling in a league alongside Shirley. He also loved fishing and carried a farmer's spirit with him throughout his life.

David had a natural way with people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a wonderful storyteller, always ready with a story for any occasion. Known for his steady good humor, strong character, and integrity, he will be remembered for the way he made others feel welcomed, valued, and at ease.

David was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Teggerdine; his parents, Kerton and Rose Teggerdine; and his siblings, Donald Teggerdine and Juanita Smith.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley; his daughter, Patricia Hogan; his daughter-in-law, Kim Teggerdine; his siblings, Jean Preble and Wayne Teggerdine; as well as ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held for David from 10-1pm on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel, 315 N. Michigan Ave., Howell, MI. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 1pm at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate David's life and legacy.
