David E. "Dave" Texter, 77, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on December 30, 2025. He was the son of the late Willard A. Texter and Eleanor H. (Jeffries) Texter. He was born in the Reading Hospital on April 7, 1948, and spent his entire life living and working in Berks County.
He graduated from Reading High School in 1966, from Albright College in 1970, and from Temple University School of Medicine in 1974. Dave completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine in 1978 at the Reading Hospital and began a 37 years career practicing full time Emergency Medicine at the Reading Hospital in July 1978, retiring in 2015.
Dave enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife, Cindy. He especially enjoyed cruising, and over the years he and Cindy saw many fascinating places. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends, photography, listening to music, and reading. He was especially fascinated by World War II. Dave was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church and was a member of their choir.
In addition to his wife, Cynthia (Johnson) Texter, Dave is survived by his daughter, Kristen Texter Brudereck; and his son, Mike Texter; his grandson, Ryan Texter, and two step grandchildren, William and Maggie Brudereck; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, W. Lee Texter.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave, Reading, PA 19609. Family and friends may gather beginning at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
