David Hapgood Thayer
David H. Thayer, of Burlington Vermont passed away on January 28, 2023 after six years of declining health. He was 85 years old. David was born in Burlington the son of Ralph and Christine Thayer on July 12th, 1937. He attended Burlington schools and graduated high school in the class of 1954. After high school, David attended DeVry Institute in Chicago, IL. He served three years in the Air National Guard in Vermont and Chicago then continued service in the Vermont's Air National Reserves. David had a successful career working for IBM in Massachusetts and Vermont for 34 years as an engineer.
He was married in June of 1957 to Janet Sanborn and raised five children together in Billerica, Massachusetts and Colchester, Vermont. David and Janet celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2022. Together they enjoyed boating and outings in the summers at the family camp on Thayer's Beach. Over the years they enjoyed road trips traveling to many areas of the U.S. and took a lot of local day trips. They also enjoyed hiking and daily walks in Vermont. David enjoyed various hobbies like woodworking in his shop, restoration of an antique car and attending car shows.
David is survived by his wife Janet of Burlington, sons Tim Thayer and wife Debbie of Burlington, Peter Thayer and wife Sarah of South Burlington, Chris Thayer and wife Jackie of Milton, daughter Debbie Rocheleau and husband Tom of Colchester, and son Colin Thayer and wife Carla of Colchester. He is survived by twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister Joyce Rosenstein.
