David Scott Thompson, 59, passed away on August 30, 2025, in Tyler, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, David's life was marked by service, faith, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Born on May 19, 1966, in Frankfort, Indiana, David was raised in KoKomo, Indiana. He graduated with the Class of 1984 from Taylor High School in KoKomo. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy in August of 1984. Over the next twelve years, David served with honor and distinction, including active duty during Operation Desert Shield. His time in the Navy shaped much of his character-disciplined yet compassionate-and left a lasting impression on those who served alongside him.

Following his military service, David pursued a career that reflected his hardworking nature and love for people. David married Betty Bryan on May 10, 2002, in Denton, Texas. Their union was one of shared laughter and enduring partnership. Together they built a life filled with family memories and mutual support. In recent years, they made their home in Wills Point, Texas after living in Dripping Springs.

David was a man of deep faith. An ordained minister of the Messianic Jewish faith, he found purpose and strength through spiritual devotion. His beliefs guided his actions and offered comfort to many throughout his life.

He had a zest for adventure and a passion for nature. Whether camping under the stars or casting a line into quiet waters while fishing, David found peace outdoors. He also enjoyed geo caching-a hobby that combined his love for exploration with his sharp intellect.

David is survived by his beloved wife Betty Thompson; son Mark "Bubba" Smith; daughters Elizabeth Smith and Sharla Poor with her husband Devlin; father William Thompson; and ten cherished grandchildren: Isaiah, Ryker, Conrad, Brycen, Braelyn, Lilith, Sylvia, Sebastian, Rose, and Logan.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jo Kelly Thompson and brother Steven Thompson.

David will be remembered for being loving, funny, intelligent-and above all-for living a life rooted in service to others. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.

A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
