Carolyn McCall Hurtt (Deese)

July 27, 1949 – August 14, 2025

Carolyn McCall Hurtt, lovingly known as "Nana," passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on July 27, 1949, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, Carolyn grew up in the Rose City neighborhood and carried the warmth of that close-knit community throughout her life.

In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Mike Roden, in Dallas, Texas. Together they built a loving home and raised three beautiful children-Jill, Ashley, and Michael-who were the center of her world. Carolyn spent her early years as a devoted stay-at-home mother before working with Texas MHMR in Terrell for eight years. She then found her professional home at Eddie Deen Company, where she enjoyed a successful 30-year career, forming lifelong friendships with colleagues and clients she deeply cherished.

Carolyn's life was one of service, joy, and love. She was the heart of her family, the one who held traditions together and created new ones. She loved annual family vacations, "sister trips," and mornings spent in her garden admiring her blooms. Even in her final days, she asked for her beloved venti hot latte from Starbucks.

She was a sports enthusiast who found joy in catering for the Dallas Cowboys for 17 seasons and the Dallas Mavericks for 13. She loved a good road trip-especially when she could drive well over the speed limit-Tex-Mex meals, the beach, and any moment shared with family. Carolyn's generosity was boundless, as seen in her many years of supporting the Salvation Army Angel Tree and teaching her grandchildren the true meaning of Christmas.

Carolyn will be remembered as thoughtful, loving, generous, passionate, adventurous, wise, and selfless-a true matriarch whose legacy of love will live on for generations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Faye Deese; her brother, Glenn Byron "Corky" Deese; and her grandson, J. Austin Moore.

She is survived by her children, Jill (Jason Moore), Ashley (Marques Wood), and Michael Roden; her sisters, Ann Sneed, Kathy (Myers)Munnerlyn, and Emelie Deese; grandchildren, James, Jessica and (Kaelan Drennan), Darius, Mikaela, Jazmyne, Erinn, Morgan, Willow, Cole, and Chloe; great-grandchildren, Jase, Jaxon, Ezra, Sadie, Kylie, and Kendal; many family members and countless friends who loved her dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the extraordinary woman who touched so many lives.

Carolyn's spirit will forever bloom in the gardens she tended, in the laughter shared over family meals, and in the traditions she leaves behind.
