David Rolfe Thornbury, Sr., age 66, of Masthope, Lackawaxen, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Born on October 15, 1958, in Winchester, Massachusetts, David was the beloved son of the late Joe Warren Thornbury and Francisanna (Huffman) Thornbury.
David lived life to the fullest. A world traveler with fun loving spirit, he embraced every opportunity to enjoy all that life had to offer-whether through his global travels, hosting unforgettable parties, or preparing delicious meals for friends and family. Known for his larger-than-life personality, David was kind, generous, and always ready to share a laugh. He had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed, loved, and entertained-and he would truly give you the shirt off his back.
Professionally, David was an accomplished businessman, serving as CEO of a direct marketing company and achieving great success in his field. Yet his greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his granddaughters, Ella and Madi, who were his pride and joy. He loved spoiling them and creating countless special memories, including "Camp Thornbury" and their first magical trip to Disney.
David found peace and happiness living on the lake, often calling it his "slice of heaven." On a hot day you could find him floating on the lake, serving mojitos, or enjoying the sunset. It was the perfect backdrop for the joy-filled life he led-and he always made sure to share that joy with others he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Lori (Lulewicz) Thornbury; his loving daughter, Jessica Lynn Bernacki and her husband AJ of Bel Air, MD; his son, David Rolfe Thornbury Jr. and his wife Sibel of Buffalo, NY; and his granddaughters, Ella and Madi.
He is also survived by Lori's son, Michael Jordan; his sisters, Joanna Thornbury Stockton, Nancy Kohls, and Tommi Pryor (Dave); his former wife, Debbie Siedlecki Thornbury; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory in Lake Ariel, PA. A celebration of life will be to follow. David's light will continue to shine through the countless lives he touched with his laughter, generosity, and love.
