It is with great sadness that the family of David Treftz announce his passing on Thursday June 2, 2022 at the age of 64.
David will be lovingly remembered by his children, Michelle (Todd) Maddox, Justin (Courtney) Treftz, Amanda (Ryan) Hook; his 9 grandchildren, Isaac, Isabelle, Luke, Nylah, Joel, Grayson, Aidan, Jackson, Wesley; his siblings Susan & Danny.
David was predeceased by his mother Emily Treftz.
David had a lifelong struggle with addiction, his battle was long and hard but he always sought God in the darkest of his nights. The family would like to share the devotion that David read the morning of his death. Bookmarked June 2:
"The flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. (Galatians 5:17)
In every believer's heart there is a constant struggle between the old nature and the new. The old nature is very active and loses no opportunity of wielding all the weapons of its deadly armory against newborn grace. On the other hand, the new nature is always on the watch to resist and destroy its enemy. Grace within us will employ prayer, faith, hope, and love to cast out the evil. It takes unto it the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:11) and wrestles earnestly.
These two opposing natures will never cease to struggle as long as we are in this world. The battle of Christian with Apollyon lasted three hours, but Christian's battle with himself lasted all the way from the Wicket Gate to the river Jordan. The Enemy is so securely entrenched within us that he can never be driven out while we are in this body. Although we are often in intense conflict, we have an almighty helper, even Jesus, the Captain of our salvation, who is always with us and who assures us that we will eventually emerge more than conquerors through Him (Revelation 8:37). With such assistance, the newborn nature is more than a match for its foes.
Are you fighting with the adversary today? Are Satan, the world, and the flesh all against you? Do not be discouraged nor dismayed. Fight on! God Himself is with you. Jehovah Nissi is your banner (Exodus 17:15), and Jehovah Rophi is the healer of your wounds (Exodus 15:26). Fear not. You will overcome, for who can defeat Omnipotence? Fight on, looking unto Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). Although the conflict may be long and difficult, the victory will be sweet and the promised reward will be glorious.
From strength to strength go on;
Wrestle and fight and pray,
Tread all the powers of darkness down,
And win the well-fought day."
The Lord never left David, He was calling out to him even in his last moments. There is great hope that Dave reached out and took His hand.
The family would like to thank all who have prayed for and loved Dave over the years.
