David Trollinger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home - East Louisville on Feb. 5, 2026.
David Walton Trollinger, 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026. Born on September 9, 1933, David lived a life marked by service, dedication, and deep faith.

David proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career as a Plastics Engineer at General Electric's Appliance Park in Louisville. His expertise and passion for his field led him to found Bluegrass Plastics, where he consulted with companies on injection molding, sharing his knowledge with clients ranging from small local businesses to global corporations.

A man of many passions, David was an avid pilot who loved taking to the skies in his beloved Beechcraft Bonanza, tail number N9026V. He was a voracious reader who delighted in sharing book recommendations with friends, though his favorite book was always his Bible, which he read cover to cover more than eight times. Each morning, he began his day with Scripture, a testament to his unwavering faith.

David was a devoted member of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, where his faith was the cornerstone of his life. A true patriot, he flew his American flag every day with pride, and one of the highlights of his life was participating in an Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C., alongside fellow Kentucky veterans.

Above all, David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and Jennie shared 68 wonderful years of marriage, built on love, faith, and partnership. He took great pride in spending time with his family and maintained close connections with his children and grandchildren, frequently texting them about topics ranging from the phases of the moon to Kentucky basketball. His ability to forge meaningful relationships knew no bounds-he made genuine connections with people from all walks of life, from his butcher at Kroger to his business acquaintances around the world. His warmth, curiosity, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie Louise Fields Trollinger; his daughters, Diane Lynn Trollinger Luhrsen and Deborah Ann Trollinger Meredith; his sons-in-law, Jay L. Luhrsen and Jeffrey D. Meredith; and his cherished grandchildren: David Jay Luhrsen, Rebecca Lynn Luhrsen, Meghan Elizabeth Meredith, Drew Christopher Meredith, and Emilie Grace Meredith. He was preceded in death by his son, David William Trollinger, and infant daughter, Tammie Trollinger.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30am, Monday, February 9, 2026, at Chapel in the Woods (1407 Moser Road, Louisville, KY 40299) with a celebration of life to follow in the Fireside Room of Southeast Christian Church, Blankenbaker Campus (920 Blankenbaker Parkway, Louisville, KY 40243). David's final resting place will be Resthaven Memorial Park (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218).

David lived a remarkably full life and will be remembered and revered by his family and friends for his gracious and genuine spirit. Those who knew him were better for it. His legacy of faith, service, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his life. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
