David Eugene Trumper, 79, of Corydon, Iowa, passed away after losing his battle with cancer on Saturday, November 8, 2025. A Celebration of Life has been planned for Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the American Legion in Corydon, Iowa.
David Eugene Trumper was born on a small ranch near Holyoke, Colorado, to Frederick and Roma (Couchman) Trumper on July 5, 1946, but soon moved to and was raised on the farm three and a half miles northeast of Clio, Iowa. David was a member of the last class to graduate from Allerton High School in 1964.
On October 30, 1965, David married his life-long sweetheart, Elora Ann Calkins and to this union were born three children, Mark David Trumper, Matthew Eric Trumper and Julia Ann (Trumper) Hoelting.
With the primary goal of supporting his family, David had many vocations during his lifetime, including carpenter, builder of Madison silos, over-the-road truck driver with three and a half million miles and numerous awards. At the age of forty-six, he enrolled at Indian Hills Community College and earned an Associate Degree in nursing. After graduating, he worked at Valley Hospital Medical Center, while living in Las Vegas, Nevada, as an RN in the emergency department. Oh, the stories he could tell.
David enjoyed many hobbies including hiking, fishing, gardening and watching his family grow up. The past ten or so years David and Elora started to learn how to play and sing Bluegrass music and Bluegrass Gospel together, at Bluegrass Festivals/jams and at their church. The past four years David and Elora have been living the vagabond lifestyle, living in their travel-trailer, traveling this wondrous, God-made creation called The United States Of America. David was a forty-six year member of Corydon Masonic Lodge No. 91 and a member of the Knoxville chapter of the order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Elora, Mark (Billie) Trumper, of Phenix City, Alabama, Matthew (Michelle) Trumper, of Des Moines, and Julia (Keith) Hoelting, of Oak Grove, Missouri, brother Michael (Sharon) Trumper and brother-in-law, Bill Downs.
