David Carlton Twigg

David Carlton Twigg passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2025, at the age of 93. He was born on December 18, 1931, in Smithfield, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Virginia B. Twigg with whom he shared 67 years of marriage. Also, his son Dennis C. Twigg; sister Lola T. Bailey; brother Ralph Twigg, parents Willie and Annie Twigg; grandson Nathaniel Hicks; and great grandson, Isaiah Levin.
David was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force in his younger years. He also had a career in management for an insurance company where he excelled. He enjoyed spending time with his family and being involved in Shadow Ridge Baptist Church. He loved banana pudding, BBQ, sweet tea, and a good bone-in rib eye.
David's favorite verse was Ephesians 2:8-9. His wish was to be remembered for his life as a committed Christian who adored God and his family and remained steadfast in his devotion to the things that mattered most.
David is survived by daughter Deborah Van Houten and husband Leonard Van Houten, son David E. Twigg and wife Jane Twigg, daughter Darlene Hicks and husband Calvin Hicks. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on April 26, 2025, at 11:00 am at Underwood Funeral Home on 522 South Brightleaf Boulevard, Smithfield, NC.
