David Umfress, 71, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. David was born in Amory on September 16, 1953 to the late Joyce and Kelly Umfress. He grew up in Hatley and was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1972. He went on to Itawamba Community college, earning a degree in business. David was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. For several years he was a real estate appraiser, rental property owner and construction worker with his dad for many years. He was also a general manager for Oakwood Mobile Homes in Columbus, MS. David's journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and unwavering faith in God.
His passing has left a great void in the hearts of his family and friends whose lives were deeply touched by him. We ask that you remember him not the way his life ended but the way it was lived and for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Left behind to treasure his memories is his daughter, Julie Benson (Terry), Bruce, MS; sister, Brenda Doyle (David), Hatley; grandsons, Ryan and Jacob Benson; nephews, Adam Doyle (Leah) and family, Dustin Doyle (Whitney) and family; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Joyce and Kelly Umfress; grandparents, Verlon and Eula Camp, Kel and Myrtle Umfress.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 PM Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Cleveland Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Aaron Parish officiating. David will be laid to rest in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Benson, Jacob Benson, Adam Doyle, Dustin Doyle, Anthony Doyle and David Doyle.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday from 2 PM until the service hour at 3 PM.
