David Velez, 55, of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at UMass Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
David is survived by his parents, Efrain Velez and Luz L. Otano; his partner, Stephen Waggoner; four brothers, Angel Otano, Luis Velez, José Velez, and Kevin Velez; three sisters, Maritza Gonzalez, Ana Luiz, and Yarines Velez Torres; many nieces and nephews, including JR Paredes who was more like a son to David, and Monica Otano and Jazmine Gonzalez, who were his primary caregivers; aunt and uncle Rosa and Angel Rosario, Sr. He was loved by many cousins and grateful for the great friends he considered family. He was predeceased by many aunts and uncles. David was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and came to Worcester at an early age. He graduated from Worcester South High School.
David loved being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed “The Wonder of It All”, travel, working on cars, and was a great cook, he even had a Spanish Food Truck for some time. David was full of life and would share his happiness with those around him.
Calling Hours will be on Thursday, May 29, from 5 pm until 7 pm, with a Prayer Service at 7 pm in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester. A graveside service will be on Friday, May 30, at 11 am at All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester. A Funeral Procession will form at the funeral home beginning at 10 am Friday.
