David Earl Vetter, 69 of South Berwick, Maine passed away peacefully Sunday, April 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a tough battle with ALS.
David, known to his family and friends as Dave, was born to Edward and Ruth Vetter, on June 8, 1953, in Portsmouth, NH. He was an athlete who loved playing football and basketball growing up. He graduated from Marshwood High School class of 1971. He worked at Pic and Pay and after high school he went to work pouring concrete for McPhersons, did line work at Seaward, and later started at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Rigger where he retired after thirty eight years in January of 2015.
Dave loved his family and the outdoors. He enjoyed his time in Northern Maine hunting with his grandson Zach, son in-laws, brothers, and good friends. He enjoyed woodworking where he could build replicas of anything and everything and made many originals. He was always working on projects and finishing jobs from his honey-do lists. You could find him at the football games on Friday nights and any afternoon or weekend at his grandkids sporting events. Time spent with his grandkids was his favorite which included fishing, campfires, ice cream, beach time, mini golfing, his famous "Vetter chicken", clam dip, and much more. Dave would give you the shirt off his back and never would expect anything in return. He loved to tell a good story or two and couldn't help but laugh along.
Dave is predeceased by his parents Edward and Helen Vetter, brother Eddie Vetter and sister Diane Vetter Wanager.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Cathy of fifty plus years. Brother Norman and his wife Stacia of Rochester, NH and brother Scott and his wife Kate of Eliot. Children-Daughter April Eastman and her husband Pete Eastman of South Berwick and daughter Shelly Eaton and her husband Jeff Eaton of Berwick.Grandchildren- Zachary Eastman, Kaylah Eastman, Jadyn Eastman, Addyson Eaton, Luke Eaton, and Blayke Eaton. Sister in law Debbie and her husband Dave and brother in law Carl and his wife Lori Crosby. Brother In-law Steve Wanager of Lebanon, Maine and sister in law Diane Vetter as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dave's family would like to thank Wentworth Home Care, Powerback, and the nurses, doctors, and respiratory therapists at Wentworth Douglass Hospital on 3 North for their kind and compassionate care of Dave and the entire family.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life, to celebrate the amazing man he was, on June 3rd from noon to 6pm at 55 Old South Road South Berwick, Maine,.
