David Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Cremation Society of Iowa - Des Moines on Feb. 20, 2026.
David Stott Walker, 84, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Home in Indianola.

David was born on February 24, 1941, in Manchester, England, to David and Alice Walker.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaDonna, and his daughter, Lynette.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his daughter Denise Morris (Tim); his grandson, Riley Morris; and his granddaughter, Morgan. He is also survived by his sisters Irene Oldham, Liz Clayton, and Margaret Warner; his brother Alan Walker; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Jeanne Van Lith.

From a young age, David had a passion for working on cars. In 1964, inspired by a magazine article seeking English car mechanics to work in the United States, he bravely made the journey across the ocean. Sponsored by Ken Wall Imports in Iowa City, David began building not only a career, but a life rooted in determination and opportunity. After a brief time there, he moved to Des Moines to work for Dave Ostrum Imports.

In 1974, David and LaDonna opened British Motors Ltd., turning their shared dream into a thriving business that served the community for over four decades. Together, they built more than a shop - they built lasting friendships. David was known for keeping the doors open on Saturdays, always ready and willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or help family and friends with their repair projects. His generosity and steady presence made the shop a welcoming place for all.

David's love for British cars extended far beyond his work. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing and remained active in British car clubs, SCCA events, and car shows throughout the United States. Cars were more than a hobby - they were a lifelong passion that connected him with countless friends.

In his later years, David found joy on the dance floor, spending Friday and Saturday evenings dancing with friends and enjoying life's simple pleasures. His smile, quick wit, and warm heart will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held when the weather warms, where friends are invited to gather - and, fittingly, to bring their cars - to honor and remember David.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his daughter, with designation to be determined at a later time.

David's legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he treasured, and the engines he so faithfully kept running.
