WARFIELD, III, David, DDS

David Kerr Warfield III, DDS, of Decatur, GA, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 24, 2025, at age 89.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Capt. David K. Warfield Jr. and Margaret M. Warfield; and his sister, Emily Warfield Thompson.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna Tiffany Warfield; daughters, Cathy Shanks (Jim) and Margaret Morris (Andy); four grandchildren, David Warfield, Margaret Emily, Catherine Elizabeth, James Zachry; niece, Wimberly Thompson; and nephew, Mark Thompson and their families.

David was born February 17, 1936 in Baltimore, MD, served in the U.S. Army for three years and moved to Atlanta to attend Emory University. He graduated with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery and joined the faculty of the Emory University Dental School, where he taught for the next 22 years, until the school closed. Still feeling the call to teach, David earned his teaching certificate and taught high school science for six years.

Additionally, David rejoined the Army as a Reservist. He rose from the rank of Major to Colonel and was a Commander of a dental unit in Augusta for the majority of his time in the Reserves.

After retirement in 1994, David took up many hobbies including calligraphy, clock and lamp restoration, building and sailing model sailboats, and painting. He and Donna enjoyed traveling in their Airstream trailer and meeting friends for breakfast at the Oak Grove Market.

David was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish as a Lay Reader, Chalice Bearer, Verger, Vestry Member, and Folk Mass bass guitar player.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday March 8, 2 PM at Holy Trinity Episcopal Parish in Decatur, Georgia. It will also be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/c/HolyTrinityParishEpiscopalChurch.

David was well-loved and will be missed deeply every day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Parish, PAWS Atlanta, or the American Heart Association.
