Life Reflections
David W. Washington was born on March 12, 1966, to the late Haywood O. Washington and Emma J. Washington whom he loved and adored dearly. David accepted Christ at an early age and joined Alta Mesa Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. David is a Dallas native and received his formal education from Wilmer Hutchins High School where he graduated in the Class of 1984. During high school and after graduating, David worked at his family businesses; Washington Janitorial Services and D'Ventures Restaurant for many years. He was a very successful businessman and was very influential in the continued success of D'Ventures Restaurant and was known for showing kindness to everyone he met throughout the community. David was a hard worker and built his career during his employment of 32 years with Dallas Housing Authority where he leaves a legacy and a true reflection of his character.
"The DHA family is deeply saddened by the passing of David Washington. Throughout his 32 year career at DHA, David Washington was a well-respected leader in the agency. No matter how great the challenge, David met the challenge with a quiet inner peace and a contagious calmness that was always with him.
During his tenure with DHA, David rose within the ranks to Regional Maintenance Supervisor, responsible for overseeing the overall maintenance of properties in Region 3. David was a knowledgeable, resourceful leader who was always willing to help. He was a man of action and few words, incredibly generous, kind and thoughtful. David Washington will be sorely missed by his DHA family and the residents he faithfully served."
David transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 26, 2022, and was
preceded in death by his parents, Haywood O. Washington and Emma J. Washington and brother Larry H. Washington. David leaves to cherish his everlasting unconditional love and memories with his significant other, Shanta Hawkins, siblings; Eyvonne McKnight (Floyd), George Washington, Haywood O. Washington, Jr. (Jane) of River Falls, Wisconsin, Robert Washington (Bennie), Ronald Washington (Gwen), Shirley Washington-Mack (Ronnie), Ray Washington (Carol), adopted sisters; Peggy Jones, Doreatha Jarvis, Cathy Conwright, Sandra Collier; adoptive brothers Douglas Miles, Arthur Walker, Juan Rangel, Londell Hayde, Lee Stovall, David Phillips, Ronnie Williams all of Dallas, Texas; Sharon Wallace, who David mentored for 25 years at DHA; special niece Shirley Mack, special nephews Michael Mack II and Carl McKnight and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends along with his special little puppies Xavier, Bailey, Duke, and Chance who celebrate his life.
Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little-but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me-but let me go
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home
When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me but let me go.
