Reverend Dr. David Lewis Waters, 82, of Ridgeway passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023. Born in Hartwell, GA, he was the son of the late George Dana and Catherine Yancey Waters Jr.
In addition to his parents, David is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Elaine Ogburn Waters.
David was a faithful and caring husband, loving and supportive father, and a fun-loving grandfather. David lived a life full of laughter, love and compassion for his family, friends and fellow man. He is survived by his son, David P. Waters (Kirsten); daughters, Catherine E. Murphy (Scott) and Margaret W. Woodruff (Troy); brothers, George Dana Waters, III. and Samuel C. Waters (Mary); eight grandchildren of which he was forever proud of, Gregory Waters (Devita), Christopher John Waters (Emily), Nicholas Sartoph, David Sartoph (Julia), Rebekah W. Elder (Nate), Megan Waters, Hunter Roberson, and Madeline Roberson; and four great grandchildren.
David served his Lord devoutly as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army for more than 24 years and as a minister for many congregations in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). David's last pulpit call before retiring was at Sion Presbyterian Church of Winnsboro, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Sion Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro conducted by Reverend Jim Blackwelder. The family will receive friends for a reception after the service in the church fellowship hall. A committal service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am Thursday morning at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sion Presbyterian Church.
