David Weaver Obituary

David Weaver

July 7, 1945 - January 15, 2026

Our angel, David Weaver, received his wings on Thursday, January 15, 2026. David was born in 1945 in Auburn, NY to Harold and Winifred Weaver. He was raised on South Seward Ave, surrounded by a house full of siblings and a neighborhood full of friends.

At 18, David began working at the ARC, a sheltered workshop which his father helped to establish in 1963. He loved going to work each day. In fact, he attended the workshop until it closed in 2019, working there for 56 years!

David enjoyed fishing off the dock on summer evenings. He'd catch a bucketful of fish and then dump it back into the lake. We often joked that the fish would line up again and again to eat the big juicy worms he put on the hook. He loved to bowl, playing weekly with his friends at the ARC. After he retired from the workshop, David began shredding paper for a horse that was allergic to straw. His shredding provided bedding for this horse then eventually it was turned to compost for neighborhood gardens. He loved taking his beloved dog Reagan for golf cart rides and talking with neighbors along the way, always spreading "peace and love".

David was always happy to see anyone he knew and would never forget a face. He addressed friends using their first and last name. If he really liked you, he'd even throw in your middle name! We were so lucky to have David in our lives. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He was such a positive presence to be around. He taught us patience, acceptance, and tolerance and inspired us to be kinder and more gentle humans.

David was reunited in heaven with his parents, Harold and Winifred Weaver; his brother, Joe; his brother-in-law, Bill Donofrio; and special Burtis Point friends, Barbie and Sharon. David was also predeceased by several furry companions including, Beansie, Mickey, Calamity Jane, Kasey and Rudy.

David is survived by his sisters, Wynn Donofrio and Susan (Grant) Sharpe; his nephews, Brian Donofrio, Joseph (Caroline) Weaver, and Colin (Connie) Weaver; his nieces, Kristen Hao, Alison (Jerry) Salvage and Nevada (Michael) Sprung; along with several cherished great nieces and nephews.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Chuck Valder (Sky Travel LLC) for taking him on wonderful adventures including SU games, Merry-Go-Round Theater productions, lake cruises and trips to Del Lago. We are deeply thankful for Jeff Hanno, his personal trainer, who kept him strong and mobile for the past two years. We are sincerely appreciative to Jodie, a very special nurse, who looked after David the past few months. Her care and compassion were immeasurable.

May his memory continue to bring comfort, smiles and warmth to all who knew him. A celebration of life will be planned for this summer. Until then, and throughout the future, we encourage you to find the joy in the small moments in life, just as David Weaver would.
