David Allen Whitney, born on October 11, 1954, in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026. He is remembered as a man of great kindness and generosity, particularly towards those he loved. Throughout his life, David made significant contributions to the trucking industry, working diligently at Allied Truck Parts and Kenworth Peterbilt.

David's ingenuity and passion for electronics were evident in his ability to build his own computer, showcasing his inventive spirit. Beyond his professional endeavors, he cherished his family and was deeply devoted to his dogs. He often spoke fondly of the love he shared with his partner of 33 years, John Lewis, with whom he built a meaningful life together.

David is survived by his loving partner John Lewis, his sisters Linda (Richard) Whitney-Ickes and Pamela (Robert Gardner) Whitney, as well as his cherished nieces and nephews: Michael (Trisha) Clark, Michelle (Terry) Wood, John Daniel (Tammy) Puchalsky, and Joshua Puchalsky, along with several great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother-in-love Virginia Smith, adopted father John Tracy Lewis of Colorado, and his beloved dog Bear, who provided him companionship and joy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dolores Whitney, his brother Roger Whitney, and his sister-in-law Rebecca Lewis.

David's life will be celebrated with a visitation on January 21, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 131 N Canton Rd, Akron, OH, 44305. Final resting place is Rose Hill Burial Park.
