David Whittenberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hurst Funeral Home - LaSalle-Peru on Feb. 15, 2026.
David Daniel Whittenberg, a long-time resident of La Salle, left this earth on Sunday, February 15, after a brief stay in Hospice care.

He is survived by his son, David Dwayne Whittenberg and his wife, Susan of Conway, AR, son Christopher Rotondo of Lake in the Hills, IL, granddaughters, Jackie Hollisof Tacoma, WA and Brianna J. and Rebecca A. Rotondo of Illinois. Dave is also survived by nieces, Jocelyne Kangail of Los Angeles, Mellody Lewis and Kathleen Hess of Illinois.

Dave was preceded in death by his long-time partner, Nora Novlan, his mother Mabel C. Davis, sisters Joan Riley and Sandra Callen all of Illinois.

Dave was a retired Commercial Truck Driver no proud member of the Teamsters Local Union #722. Dave was a veteran and served in the US Army. He was affectionately known as Bozo to his friends. He loved all animals but was especially fond of dogs. He loved his Casey for many years. Dave was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing. Many hours were spent in Minnesota with his buddies fishing for Northern Pike, Walleye, and Crappie. He loved his neighbors and was known to fry up some fish with them from time to time.

As with anyone, Dave has his struggles, but the ones he loved, he loved fiercely. He cherished friendship and we will be always grateful for the love and compassion that his neighbors, Marc and Nicole Znaniecki, Zach and Catherine showed him and Nora through the years.

At his request, a cremation was performed. If you want to honor Dave's memory, we ask that you donate in his name to: Illinois Valley Animal Rescue, PO Box 284, Peru, IL 61354, illinoisvalleyanimalrescue.net or First Baptist Church of Peru,1124 Sycamore St., Peru, IL, 61354.
