Eric was born in Peru on January 17, 1958 to Richard and Phyllis (Sieg) Jacobson. He spent his life rooted in values of family, faith, and service to others.
Eric was an intelligent and thoughtful man with a deep curiosity about the world around him. He enjoyed learning, problem-solving, and sharing insights with others, often offering knowledge with humility and patience. His intelligence was evident not only in his professional skill, but in the wisdom and perspective he brought to conversations and relationships.
Eric built his career as a chef, a role that reflected both his talent and his generous spirit. He loved sharing his knowledge of the culinary arts and took pride in teaching others, whether in a professional kitchen or around the family table. Cooking was more than a profession for Eric-it was a way to connect, to teach, and to care for those around him.
A man of faith, Eric believed in God and lived his life guided by that belief. He found great joy in time spent with his family, especially during his cherished yearly trips to Minnesota. Those trips were marked by laughter, togetherness, playing cards, and long days fishing, where he delighted in sharing his angling skills and love for family time.
He was also a loyal and steady friend, known for his easy conversation, quiet humor, and willingness to help others. Eric valued his friendships deeply and maintained close bonds throughout his life, simply spending time together, his presence made those around him feel welcome and at ease.
Eric is survived by his two sons, Spencer of Peru and Justin of Bloomington; five siblings: Jeff Jacobson of Brussels, Belgium, Dan (Johanna) Jacobson of Evergreen Park, Diana Jacobson of Evergreen Park, Elizabeth (Steve) Young of Chicago, and Andrew Jacobson of Evergreen Park; nieces and nephews; along with many friends and extended family members who will miss him deeply.
