David Eugene Williams, age 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born on September 19, 1948, in Fort Smith, David was the beloved son of Eric Ross Williams Sr. and Ruby Louise (Kelley) Williams. From 1967 to 1968, David proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam War veteran. After his service, he built a successful career in construction until his retirement. David loved the outdoors and had a special passion for fishing. He took part in numerous fishing tournaments and especially enjoyed time spent on the lake in his pontoon boat, surrounded by family and friends. Whether he was watching his favorite survival reality shows or spending time with his lifelong friend Britt Owen, David found joy in the simple things. David had a playful spirit and was known for his sense of humor-he loved giving nicknames and teasing the people he cared about most. Generous and kind-hearted, he never hesitated to help someone in need. His Christian faith guided his actions and shaped the way he loved those around him.
David is survived by his four children: Bryan Womack and wife Lacretia of Paducah, Kentucky; Catreice Williams of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Gina Metz and husband Frank of Greenwood, Arkansas; and David Williams II and wife Jennifer of Muldrow, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Cole Womack; Calley (Womack) Holland; Dylan Gregory and wife Lauren; Casey Lynn Gregory; Kennady Stone and husband Rob; Karter Langston; Koleman Langston; Darren Williams; MadaLyn Williams; and BrantLee Jean Williams; and one great-grandchild, Ruby Gregory. David is also survived by his brothers, Eric Ross Williams Jr. and Keith Williams; and his sisters, Tanya Williams, Luanne Vilhauer, and Kelley Scribner. He was deeply loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eric and Ruby Williams; his wives, Brenda Womack, Thelma Williams, and Deborah Jean Williams; and his sister, Linda L. Williams.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Lewis Funeral Chapel, located at 4817 Kelley Hwy, Fort Smith, AR 72904. A committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Pastor Dewayne Hicks will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be David's cherished grandchildren.
