David Lee Williams, age 71, died on July 26, 2025 at his home in
Carlisle, PA with his wife by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Foley of
Carlisle, PA, his loving daughters Carey Boughton Williams (husband Jed Jenny) of Sparks, MD, Ashley McDonald Williams of Irvington, VA and his adoring grandsons, Stellan Boughton Jenny and Wilke Waller Jenny. He is also survived by his siblings, sister Jenny Williams Robinson (husband Daryl), sister, Frances Butler, and brother, Phillip Lee Williams. David was preceded in death by his younger brother, Howard Sawyer Williams (wife Pamela).
David was born on November 25, 1953, in Monterey, CA to the late Dr. M. Lee Williams and Shirley Sawyer Williams.
He spent his formative years in
Baltimore, MD attending Calvert School. At the age of 11, David's family moved to Boulder, Colorado where he spent the school year skiing the Rockies, hunting, camping and deepening his lifelong appreciation for nature and adventure. Summers were spent in his beloved ancestral home of Irvington, VA. Throughout his life, David spent a considerable amount of time, and was devoted to, the extended family and friends and the Irvington community. In his time there, he enjoyed sailing, crabbing, fishing, and taking advantage of all that the Rappahannock River life has to offer.
David attended Colorado State University where he and Suzy Fitch (Boulder, CO) met. The day after graduation, David and Suzy married and moved east to
Baltimore, MD where they started their careers and their family.
David had a long banking career in Baltimore with M&T Bank and its predecessor banks. He was a regular in the bank softball leagues and long served on the Board of Students Sharing Coalition. He was a second-generation member of the Society of Cincinnati and of the Elkridge Country Club. David was an ardent supporter of marshland conservation through Ducks Unlimited as well as a number of different charities and causes.
Later in life, David and Julia married and enjoyed their small farm in Carlisle surrounded by their animals and friends at the foot of the Blue Mountains. They were involved with the US Army War College in Carlisle sponsoring several International Fellows (foreign officers seeking advanced military degrees). With David's generosity and often anonymous kindness, he quickly became a favorite of officers and their families and sustained relationships long after the officers returned to their home countries.
David was a collector, an avid bird hunter, a skilled sailor, took to foxhunting effortlessly, made world class bonfires and was an eminently talented builder and story teller. His charismatic energy and passion for life will be missed by all that knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to a charity supporting the preservation of the Chesapeake Bay.
