"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearance." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

David L. Williams, a man known for his kindness, loving heart, and unshakeable spirit, went to his eternal home on February 15, 2026, at the age of 89. A lifelong resident of Savannah, GA, he was born on November 15, 1936, to the late Frank D. and Elma Johnson Williams. He spent his early years in Boy Scouts, riding his bike, playing tennis, DJ for all school dances and tinkering with electronics.

David was a proud graduate of Savannah High in 1955 and Armstrong Junior College, where he was a member of the Maskers.

He married his sweetheart, Roberta Mckenzie, on February 7, 1965, and together they built a wonderful life in Savannah, raising four beautiful children.

A dedicated patriot, David spent 22 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Master Sgt. with numerous honors and recognitions. His professional career was in the TV industry, working as a sound and video engineer for WJCL, WTGS, and retiring from WSAV in 1999. A memorable story he often shared from his time at WSAV was the time he courageously climbed the towering WSAV antenna to retrieve a school's flag from a local Rival Homecoming game, because no one else wanted to, capturing amazing photos from the top. His adventures and the stories he told could captivate listeners for hours.

A Christian man of faith, David was active in his community and cherished time spent with family and friends. He found joy in simple pleasures, particularly his lifelong fascination with trains, which began as a boy riding his bike to follow the tracks all around Savannah.

David will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His kind spirit, steady presence, sense of humor, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Roberta Mckenzie Williams; his children: Rebekah (William) Hamilton, Virginia (Jerry) Bunton, Deborah (Kurt) Scheibling, and John David (Tina) Williams; his grandchildren: Elizabeth (Troy) Funk, Victoria (Layne) Churchill, Michael Bunton, Christy (Corbin) Wardlaw, Brook (Dakota) Pierce, Megan (Nick Vasile) Scheibling, Jacob (Allie) Williams, Griffin Williams, James Varner, and Alex Varner; and his great-grandchildren: Lilyan and Loralye Funk, Evy and Jerry Wardlaw, and Scarlett Varner. He also leaves behind his niece, Rebecca (Tom) Polaski, the daughter of his only brother, and was loved by many sisters- and brothers-in-law, and several more nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elma; his brother, Devant T. Williams; and his sisters-in-law, Jean Williams, Rita Oster, and Linda Lash.

Funeral services will be officiated by Robert Mckenzie III with an Army drum salute by James Varner. A viewing will take place at Baker McCullough Funeral home on February 26, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Bonaventure Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026.

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26
