David Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carnes Funeral Home - Texas City on Feb. 23, 2026.
David Anthony "Tom" Williams, Sr. was born on March 29, 1940, in Woodville, Mississippi. He was the seventh son and eleventh of thirteen children born to the late Howard and Lucy Ann (Ward) Williams.

David attended St. Mark Baptist Church (Ventress, MS) with his parents and siblings under the leadership of Reverend Harrison Dupree, where he began his lifelong walk with God.

He was educated at Wilkinson County Training School in Woodville, Mississippi. After graduation, David relocated to Texas in search of greater opportunities. His search landed him at Sterling Chemical Plant, where he worked faithfully until his retirement in 1996. During his years there, he was an active member of Local Union #154 and was honored with Lifetime Membership status after more than 50 years of service. In retirement, David enjoyed traveling, barbecuing and smoking meat, tending his seasonal gardens, and caring for all those that he loved.

In June 1967, David married Johnnie Mae Morris. From this union, one son, David "Andy-Boy" Williams, Jr., was born. After her passing, David was a devoted father and provider to his son. Years later, David was blessed to find love again and married Ruthy Mae Stuart. They shared 42 years of holy matrimony.

Throughout the Texas City and La Marque communities, David was affectionately known as "Head." He never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcomed and loved. David's quick wit, wise counsel, and generous hospitality (a meal, a laugh, or a place to stay) was a blessing to family, friends, and even friends of friends. Truly, men like David were rare.

One of David's greatest joys was the special bond with his granddaughter, Taryn. From daily commutes to school, long conversations about life, and ultimately celebrating Taryn's two college graduations. His heart truly overflowed with pride, hope, and admiration.

David leaves to cherish his memory devoted and loving wife, Ruthy; children, David "Andy-Boy" Williams, Jr., and Keflynn (Trevor) Hudson; host of grandchildren; in-laws, Bennie Murl Lard (Edward); James Stuart; Arlene Carrigan (Ben); Thelma Williams (Lawrence) and Idell Doyle (Larry) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings; daughter, Shelia; son, Kelton; and other beloved family members.
