David Winder

David L. Winder, 54, was called home by God’s grace and loving mercy to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 22, 2026 in Aberdeen, Idaho. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, brother, and friend. We will miss his smile, his sense of humor, his laughter and his love that overflowed from his big heart towards us all.

David was born on March 26, 1971, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to David E. Winder and Frances A. Nuckolls. He was their only son and third child, following his two sisters. Throughout his life, he lived in several places but ultimately rooted himself in Aberdeen, Idaho, where he built community and lasting friendships.

For 27 years, David was married to Heidi Winder, the mother of his children. Together they built a life and raised a family that remains his enduring legacy. Their shared years and commitment to their children were a significant and meaningful part of his life story.

In May of 2024, David married Tammie Montgomery and happily created their life in Aberdeen surrounded by family.

David is survived by his wife Tammie of Aberdeen, Idaho; daughter, Erynn(Miguel) Olmedo with grandchildren, Kaique, Marlee and Asa of American Falls, Idaho; son, Dawson(Gates) Winder with grandchildren, Radke and Conley of Anchorage, Alaska; son, Duglas(Kayla) Montgomery with grandchildren, Ava and Makylah of Missoula, Montana; daughter, Kallie Sommers with grandson, Kyle, of Aberdeen, Idaho; daughter, Kylie(Tanner) Sommers of Missoula, Montana; mother, Frances(Steve) Martin of Coin, Iowa; sister, Cherie(Lawrence-deceased) Wray, of Coin, Iowa; and sister, Dana(David) Hendricks of Pocatello, Idaho; his stepbrothers, Matt and Adam; and his stepsister, Amanda, whom he loved dearly and considered as his own blood. He was a proud uncle to too many nieces and nephews to count and cherished his role in their lives. He is further survived by many extended family members and close friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father, David E. Winder, who passed away on June 27, 2011.and many other family members as well as numerous friends.

David’s favorite things to do were camping, hunting, fishing and off-roading with family and friends. He was also an artist when it came to cooking good food, musical endeavors like self- taught guitar play, and writing his own songs to worship unto the Lord. He also loved to shoot competitively or for fun. These were his passions. His passion also included the study of the Word of God and being His witness. His deep-rooted belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit made his passion to be a disciple and teacher so apparent with those who knew him.

He had quite a few accomplishments. He graduated from ISU Auto Mechanics program after high school and was an ASE Certified mechanic who was employed with the dealership in American Falls for a time and in Pocatello at Sun Power Automotive. He owned his own gunsmith business where he shared his expertise with other gun owners and their passion for the sport.

Arrangements are being handled by Davis-Rose Mortuary in American Falls, Idaho. Memorial service will be Saturday, February 28, 2026. The visitation with family is from 9:00 AM to 10 AM MST and the funeral service is 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM MST at Powerhouse Christian Fellowship at 2905 Sunbeam Road in American Falls, Idaho. Light lunch with the family will follow the service.
