David Nelson Wingert, age 90, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Brookview Health Care Center. Born in Fayetteville, PA on October 13, 1932, he was the son of the late Levi and Hazel Shaffer Wingert.
Mr. Wingert was a member of Antrim Brethren in Christ Church. He enjoyed hunting and passing that tradition on to his children and grandchildren. Mr. Wingert enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished his time managing the local groundhog population. He worked as a dairy farmer until his retirement in1989. Mr. Wingert stayed busy after retirement working at the Butcher Shoppe in Chambersburg for 20 years.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Velva Crider Wingert, whom he married on May 7, 1955; four children, Kenneth E. Wingert (wife Sue) of Chambersburg, PA, Ivan J. Wingert (wife Saundra) of Greencastle, PA, Dwayne D. Wingert (wife Pam) of Chambersburg, PA, and Marilyn A. Smucker (husband Darrell) of Spring Mills, PA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Lois Ocker (husband Harvey) of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Thrush.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 11 AM at Antrim Brethren in Christ Church, 24 Kauffman Rd. East, Chambersburg, PA, where Pastor Casey Hurst will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will follow for the family at Air Hill Cemetery at 2 PM. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
