Susan M. (Gordon) Downin, age 78, of Providence Place, Chambersburg, PA, and formerly of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, after a six-year battle with dementia. Born July 26, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD, she was a graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School, class of 1964.
Susan was the daughter of Richard “Dick” Gordon and Julia “Judy” Gordon. She retired after 25 years of service with EENET where she served as the Executive Producer. In addition, she led the staff for FEMA, providing disaster relief.
Susan was a member of the Greencastle First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6319 of Greencastle, and a former partner at Destination Arts in Waynesboro, pursuing her love of natural photography and framing her pictures. In addition, she was passionate about her Redskins.
In her spare time, Susan enjoyed volunteering in Caitlin and Hannah’s (her granddaughters) school classes. Spending time with her four grandchildren meant the world to her. And even as her disease progressed, seeing them always put a big smile on her face.
Surviving family members include one daughter, Monica Downin of Wilmington, NC; two sons, Harry Downin and Richard Downin, both of Greencastle; three granddaughters, Caitlin Eshleman, Hannah Downin, and Kenley Downin; and one grandson, Finn Downin.
In addition to her parents, Susan was proceeded in death by a daughter, Amanda (Mandy) Downin; two brothers, Michael Gordon and Timothy Gordon; and her former husband, H. John Downin in 2009.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 11 AM at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 5-7 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA 17225. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
