David Wintermute Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Martin Funeral Home - Clinton on Mar. 29, 2026.
David A. Wintermute, born on September 30, 1942 in Somerville, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at the age of 83.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Joanne Person Wintermute, his son Tim Wintermute and his wife Penny of Hampton, NJ, his daughter Pam Wintermute Goff and her husband Jay of Bloomsbury, NJ, and his son-in-law Gary Heinrich of Narvon, PA. In addition, David was known as Pepa to Gordon (& Ashlyn), Paige (& Stephen), Grace, Gillian, Josh (& Janae), Shane, Charlotte, Henry, and Charlie. More recent family additions include David's adorable great-grandchildren Carter and Kinsley Heinrich.

David was predeceased by his father Russell Wintermute, his mother Ruth Bergmann Wintermute, his step-mother Mitzie Magnette Wintermute, his daughter Robin Wintermute Heinrich, and his grandson Trevor Heinrich.

Dave grew up on a farm in Oldwick, NJ where he learned the value of hard work in the peach orchards and dairy cow barns alongside his father and brother Bill. He graduated from North Hunterdon High School in 1960 and married Joanne several years later. It was an evening wedding: cows in the morning, vows at night.

When the family sold the farm, Dave joined Vollers Excavating in North Branch as a machine operator, a job that led him to different positions within the company over the course of fifty years.

In retirement Dave spent his time collecting, restoring, and showing antique tractors, a hobby he truly enjoyed.

Dave lived a rich and varied life, traveling broadly with Joanne to countries around the world, following his favorite NASCAR drivers, fishing in Florida, hosting epic Christmas Eve mechanic-shop breakfasts, and serving many as a Sunday school teacher and later as a deacon at his church in Clinton. He was a steadfast man of deep faith who loved his family and left a lasting impact on many who crossed his path; he will be sorely missed.

Arrangements and cremation services are under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home in Clinton, NJ. To send condolences to the family please visit www.martinfh.com
