Mr. David G. Wright, 98, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away 12:05 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at Aledo Rehab and Healthcare, Aledo, Illinois. He was born August 23, 1926 in Tillamook, Oregon, the son of David and Pauline (Rimbey) Wright, and was raised by his step-father, Clifford L. Schornick.
He is survived by children while married to Catherine Peter, Stephanie (and Russ) Rolf, Libbie Sanford and Bill Wright; children while married to Gerrie Wright, Tracy (and David) Scott and Amy Wright. He is also survived by a brother, Cliff P. Schornick, long time special friend, Leona Swanson, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Betty Lou DeCourse and Patricia Ann King.
David lived and graduated from high school in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He entered the United States Navy in 1943 and served in Hawaii and the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1946. He entered the United States Army in 1948 and was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a registered tribal member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and listed with Pawnee Nation Veterans of World War 11. After military service ended, he attended classes at Oklahoma State University as an art major.
David was employed at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, Hughes Aircraft Company, as a bartender, worked at JC Carter in Costa Mesa, California and RFMS for over thirty five years in Galesburg.
He enjoyed playing golf, painting, woodworking crafts, and baking, cooking, taking trips around the country to visit family members, New England in the fall and Door County, Wisconsin, in the spring. He was a member for a time at the American Legion.
Family would like to thank the staff at Aledo Rehab and Healthcare and Traditions Hospice for the great care and compassion to keep him comfortable in his final days.
Cremation has been accorded. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Pastor Willie Baez will officiate. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com -
