David Yarger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Home, Bellville Butler Chapel on Feb. 6, 2026.
David Eugene Yarger, aged 81, died at home on January 24, 2026.

Born on December 12, 1944 in Dyersburg, Tennessee, the day his father, who was a B-17 pilot serving in W.W.II, shipped out for England. David was the first of two children born to Eugene Yarger and Gloria Bowman Yarger. He lived with his family in Bellville until they moved to the country southeast of Bellville through his high school graduation. He attended Defiance College, Miami University and the University of Tennessee. David taught at collegiate and local school levels, moving back home for the last 40 years of his life.

David enjoyed music, the arts and performances. His interests also included traveling and reading. But he especially enjoyed his horticultural interests. He grew all sorts of trees, shrubs, flowers, many exotic plants, and vegetables in his many gardens.

David never married. He died after a brief illness - where he wished – at home, attended by family and friends. Psalm 23 and the hymn, What a Friend We have in Jesus, were comforts to him.

David is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Cyndde and James DeWeese; his niece, Renata (Kenny) Watkins; his nephew Abram (Kerry) DeWeese; grand nephews, a grand niece and several cousins.

The Bellville Snyder Funeral Home is honored to assist David's family with private cremation services.

I have so many wonderful memories of David...from school, the Presbyterian Church, and just as a very special friend. One memory that has been coming up since I first sadly heard of his death, is canoeing with David on the Mohican River. My husband, Mike, also has good memories of David as he often served as a substitute teacher at Springmill Elementary School in Mansfield where Mike served as principal. We are saddened by his passing and feel blessed to have known him so well. We send our deepest condolences to Cyndde and her family.
