David Zachry Obituary
David "Jeff" Zachry, 68, of Coconut Creek, Florida, passed away at home on Monday, May 20, 2024, after a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.
David was born on May 10, 1956, in Miami, and attended school there where he met his wife, Donna. He married his high school sweetheart in Miami, and they were devotedly married for 42 years until Donna's passing in 2020. Together, they raised two children in Coconut Creek, of whom they were immensely proud. David established a career as a burglar alarm technician, earning his fire alarm license and UL certification. He left the industry shortly before retirement due to his health.
David had a passion for mechanics and science, enjoyed sailing, participated in diving, and was an avid reader of science fiction. He loved classic rock, woodworking, wolves, reptiles, dogs, and driving in the mountains during family vacations. He was a collector of rocks, minerals, and gadgets and was affectionately known as "MacGyver" for his ability to fix anything. He cherished the North Georgia mountains and had hoped to retire there with his wife and cat, watching his grandson grow up.
A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, David spent his last three and a half years living in his home of 37 years with his son, daughter-in-law, grandson, and cat. He treasured spending time with his family, especially on Christmas, and enjoyed engaging others in interesting conversations.
David will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kristina (Paul) Zachry of Gainesville, FL, and Robert (Alison) Zachry of Coconut Creek, FL, along with his doting grandson, Axel. He is also survived by his cousins and countless friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Donna Zachry.
A Celebration of Life in memory of David will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at his home. Please join the family anytime between 1 pm and 4 pm to share your fondest memories and celebrate his life at: 4381 NW 3rd Court Coconut Creek, FL 33066.
