Sandra Davis Zachry, of Manchester, TN, formerly of Carrollton, GA, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at McArthur Manor. She was born October 6,1931 in Cedartown, GA, to the late Carl Davis and Sanford Johnson Davis.
Sandra was educated in the Carrollton city schools, the University of Georgia and West Georgia College, graduating with a degree in elementary education. She spent her teaching career at Maple Street Elementary before embarking on her next chapter as practice manager and X-ray technician for the love of her life, Dr. Charles Zachry, chiropractic physician.
Sandra was truly one-of-a-kind & we were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from her during her 93 years, among them:
• Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
• A conversation does not require two orators (just one talker & one listener), a skill which she mastered.
• The key to a long, healthy life is Coca-Cola, butter and mayonnaise (used liberally on anything & everything).
• Never leave a door ajar as bugs (one of Sandra's nemeses) will seize the opportunity to enter your home.
• Finally, there aren't many issues that can't be solved by late night phone conversations with good friends on a red rotary phone.
Sandra greatly loved a beautiful home, especially in the Colonial Williamsburg taste, her "Gawga" Bulldogs, paper towels, music from the big band era, dancing, romance novels, the Hallmark channel and classic movies, especially her favorite, Gone with the Wind. She was a skilled hostess (especially during the holidays) and an excellent cook. Part of the greatest generation, she was a proud American with a slow southern drawl. Above all, she loved her large circle of friends and family dearly and cherished her role as "Nana."
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren whose photos she would share with prospective friends anytime, anywhere: children, Lynne (Stan) Jarrell of Manchester,TN; Michael C (Elizabeth) Zachry of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Ashley Jarrell, Allison (Travis) Dotson, Zachry (Taylor) Jarrell, and Josie Zachry; great-grandchildren James and Harrison Jarrell; niece, Leigh Anne (Steve) Kuhn, and nephew, Bill Davis. Sandra is reunited with her husband and great love, Dr. Charles Zachry and is preceded in death by brother, Bill Davis.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Almon Funeral Home from 11:00 am- 1:00 pm with graveside service to follow at Carrollton City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Green, Steve Kuhn, Bill Davis, Travis Dotson, Zach Jarrell and Ashley Jarrell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
The family wishes to thank the staff of McArthur Manor for their kindness and the exceptional care they took of "Suga Suga" in her last days.
