Dawn married Donald Sare, and they started their family in Grand Rapids. She moved to Cheboygan, Michigan, in 1971, where she was a stay-at-home mom and very active in her church community. She settled in Sault Ste. Marie in 1975 where she worked various jobs and met many lifelong friends. She retired from the Sault Area Public Schools as an administrative assistant in 2013.

Dawn enjoyed having her nails and hair done, reading, singing and playing the piano. She also liked knitting, crocheting, and volunteering. She enjoyed the great outdoors and could be found cross-country skiing, biking, gardening, swimming and travelling. She was an avid cat lover and had many furry companions that she cared for over the years. Dawn and Bob shared many travel adventures both in the United States and internationally, including France, Alaska, New York City, and Hawaii. Above all, Dawn was a dedicated mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
