Dawn Nadine Callaway

Dawn Nadine Callaway, 63, of Newark, NJ native passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was born on January 25, 1962, in Orange, New Jersey to Elizabeth and Bruce Hargrave. She graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange NJ. She was a nurse during her time of service in the US Army Reserves. She fell in love and married the love of her life Gregory Callaway. From their love bloomed six beautiful babies that were her pride and joy. Dawn knew the Lord and often sang his praises. She was in choirs in multiple churches. Her home church was Paradise Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. Upon moving to Tennessee, she became a member of Overcoming Believers Church in Knoxville, TN under the direction of Pastor and Lady Arnold. She was a caregiver by nature, a songbird, and a master cleaner. She was a woman who showed great love to her community and all she knew. She would often be the one handing out food from her kitchen to those who wanted and needed it. She was the mother to many children she did not birth but you would never know. Dawn was big on family and made a point to visit or see all her grandbabies in person. Dawn celebrated life to the fullest and her memories will live on in the lives of her loved ones and those whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter, Lilyan Callaway (Kelon); daughter Eliza Bailey (Eric); daughter, Ayisha Callaway (Jonado); daughter, Keisha Wright (Douglas); son, Gregory Callaway; daughter, Christina Callaway (Derek). She is survived by brothers, Shiron Hargrave and Gregory Hargrave. She had several grandchildren: Sean, Kiaira, Kalissa, Skyler, Kyla, Kelon Jr., Aliyah, Anthony, Alicia, Aaron, Alani, Marquise, Kamar, Douglas Jr., Kyseem, Avalon, Amari, and Alijah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory Callaway, mother, Elizabeth Hargrave, father, Bruce Hargrave, grandparents, Elizabeth and James Foreman and Irene and William Hargrave. The family would like to extend special gratitude to the caring staff members at Tennova Healthcare Hospice, especially nurses Matthew, Chloe, Ingrid, and Maria. We would like to thank the funeral home for taking great care of our precious mother. We would also like to thank the family and friends who surrounded, supported, and loved us through this hard time.
