Dean R. Aggers, age 91, of McKean, PA, died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Manchester Commons. He was born in Port Allegany, PA on August 17, 1934, the son of the late August and Elma Aggers.
Dean graduated from McKean High School in 1952. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 until 1973, retiring after 20 years with the rank of Captain. Following his military career, he returned to McKean and owned service stations in Edinboro and Wesleyville. He also served as Zoning Administrator and worked as a part-time U.S. Postal carrier for McKean Township. After his final retirement in 1981, he and Martha moved multiple times before returning to McKean in 2018.
Dean enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as golfing, bowling, and traveling the world. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make everyone around him laugh, always joking and bringing joy to those he loved. Dean was always willing to lend a hand and actively participated in every community he lived in, finding a church to be involved with wherever he went. He was instrumental in starting the original McKean Post 740 of the VFW, which later consolidated to form the Edinboro-McKean Memorial Post 740, where he was a life member. He was a member of the Oasis Lodge 416 of Edinboro and Scottish Rite of Erie. He also belonged to the Marine Corps League 1196 of Griffin, GA, and generously volunteered for Toys for Tots and Habitat for Humanity.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Robert (Ann), Curtis (Dorothy), Gerald, and August Jay Aggers; and a grandchild, Michaela Aggers.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Martha, with whom he would have celebrated their 70th anniversary on October 14, 2025; a son, Thomas (Ute) Aggers; a daughter, Rhonda (Jeffrey) Plyler; six grandchildren, Kerstin (Dustan) Andrews, Thomas Aggers, Mark (Sara) Aggers, Justin (Carly) Plyler, Jordan Plyler, and Paige (Ryan) Boesch; 10 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Olivia, and Lennox Andrews, Austin and Chase Aggers, Claire and Andrew Plyler, Lily Plyler, and Ella and Brody Boesch; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, Quinnleigh Aggers, and Ryker and Oakley Andrews-Satterwhite.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Manchester Commons for the loving care they provided over the past two years, and to AseraCare Hospice during his final days.
