SFC Gerald Edward Aggers, Retired Army, age 87, “Lost The Battle, Won The War” on February 8, 2025, surrounded by those he laughed with, lived for and loved.
Gerry was born at home in McKean, PA on September 10, 1937. He graduated from McKean High School and in September 1955 enlisted in the US Army, where he made a career and enjoyed many travels until his retirement in February 1976. Upon his return home he worked as a carrier out of McKean Post Office, serving his community until his retirement in July 2000.
Gerry was a member of Masonic Lodge #46 and International Chapter #5 Eastern Star in Berlin, Germany. He served on the Board of Directors of Rainbow for Girls in Edinboro, where he received the Grand Cross of Colors Award. He was a past zoning officer for McKean Township in the late 70's and also worked as an inspector at the polls in McKean for many years. One of his greatest achievements was helping to establish Edinboro/McKean VFW #740, and being elected its first commander in 1978.
Friends may call at Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held there Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by burial with full military honors at Erie County Memorial Gardens, and a luncheon at VFW Post #740 at 1 p.m.
