Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brashears Funeral Home and Crematory - Huntsville on Oct. 5, 2023.
Henry Eudean (Dean) Bartlett, 74, peacefully left this life on October 3rd, 2023 at his home, surrounded by family. Dean had a giving personality and was always quick with a joke or a tease and loved to share his horseshoe and other puzzles with everyone.
A 1967 graduate of Huntsville High School, Dean spent his adult life in the poultry industry from working at George's, to starting as a knife sharpener at Swift, when it opened, to working his way to live haul manager before his early retirement from Butterball in 2005.
Dean was an avid hunter, and shared that love with his sons-in-law, grandsons, and many friends. Dean became well known for his deer jerky and was quick to share with anyone who would try it. The doctors and nurses at Landmark Cancer Center began requesting jerky as Dean had treatments.
Dean was born on March 5,1949 to John D. and Josephine (Madewell) Bartlett. The youngest boy of the couple's eleven children. Proceeding him in death along with his parents were his siblings, Anna Lee Farrell, Thelma Bartlett, Doyle Bartlett, Lloyd (Betty) Bartlett, Richard (Pete) Bartlett, Jim Bartlett, Ines Walker, John (Frankie) Bartlett, and brother-in-law Dewey Armer. His in-laws Harry A. Smith Sr. and Johnnie E. Smith, who held a special place in his heart.
Dean married his high school sweetheart, Johnnie (Smith), and the couple celebrated their 56th anniversary this past summer. He is survived by his loving wife, as well as daughters Tamara and Terry Long, of Huntsville; Carol Williams and Mike Smith of Huntsville; his grandchildren, Randall and Emily Long of
Coffeyville, KS., Sarah Long and Matthew Nail, Matt and Nichole Williams, Jon Williams, and Robbie Smith, all of Huntsville; and his great-grandchildren Ruby Long and Evelyn Long of
Coffeyville, KS., and Weston Obenshain of Huntsville. Dean is also survived by two sisters, Margie Armer and Rebecca Mounce. Sisters-in-law Bobbie (Smith) and Sam Ramey, Roby Bartlett, Betty Bartlett, Christine Bartlett; brothers-in-law, Harry and Cindy Smith, and Burl Walker, along with a plethora of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, October 9, 2023, at Brashears Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the Huntsville Church of Christ with Jeff Watson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Long, Mike Smith, Randall Long, Matt Williams, Jon Williams, Robbie Smith, Matthew Nail, and Weston Obenshain. Cremation will be under the direction of Brashears Funeral Services and Dean's final wishes will be carried out.
Because of Dean's lifelong love of children, the family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital Northwest, 4093 West Sunset Avenue, Ste 102, Springdale, AR 72762. The family wishes to thank Dr. Simeon Jaggernauth and Dr. Lockwood for their care, guidance, and encouragement as well as all the staff at Landmark and Highlands Oncology, Circle of Life Hospice for the short time of care they provided they were a blessing to the family.
