Dean Hervey Brailey
Lansing, Michigan
Dean Hervey Brailey, a man whose sense of humor was as finely tuned as the
bicycles he loved, pedaled off into the great beyond on September 27, 2024. Born
on May 12, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan to the late Fred and Betty (Fox) Brailey,
Dean's early knack for tinkering with just about anything that had gears, bolts, or
required a wrench set the stage for a life filled with laughter and the constant whir
of bike chains.
After graduating high school and earning a bachelor's degree from Michigan State
University, Dean embarked on a career with the State of Michigan. His career was
long and varied, working for the State Library, as a laboratory technician for the
Department of Agriculture, and finally settling in as a System Analyst with the
Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, retiring in 2011.
Dean's love for bicycles wasn't just a passing hobby, he was an active member of
the League of Michigan Bicyclists and the Tri-County Bicycle Association. He
treasured time spent on summer rides like the Shoreline Tour and DALMAC.
As time passed Dean spent less time on his bikes and more time chasing his
granddaughters around. One of his biggest joys was watching them grow up.
Whether he was exchanging random outrageous facts with them, singing and
acting out Frozen songs for three hours straight, or letting the girls give him a
makeover, he was always there and willing to join in their adventures.
Dean was as funny as he was kind, and as selfless as he was hilarious. He never
missed an opportunity to make someone smile or lend a helping hand. He always
put family first without judgment or complaint.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean L. Brailey, and a
sister-in-law Nancy Brailey.
He is survived by his son Thomas Lantzer Brailey with his wife Andrea (Chapin)
Brailey and granddaughters Sophia Brailey and Evelyn Brailey, siblings, Fred
Brailey, Claudia (Mike) Tiefenback, Lisa (Sam) Carbaugh, and Kris (Paul
Cecchini) Brailey, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to join them for a gathering in celebration of Dean's life on
Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen
Family Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel 520 East Mount Hope Avenue, Lansing.
Memorials may be made to the League of Michigan Bicyclists in memory of Dean.
