Dean William Ferris (59) son of the late David Ferris and Diane (Gregoire) Ferris born September 12,1965 passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough Maine after a brave and arduous one-year battle with Neuroendocrine Cancer.
He was surrounded by family, friends and the love of his life, Becky (Heyer) Ferris, his "bride" of 26-years.
He was a devoted and loving husband, a good dad to his daughter Renee Nowak and son Robert Brown.
A loving Papa to his grandchildren, Brooklyn Giroux, John Darroch Coviello, and Giuseppe and Connor Brown.
Dean was a people person. He liked conversing with everyone wherever he was. He often phoned in to WGAN where he was a weekly caller and also caller of the year. He always had something witty and wonderful to share. Dean was also featured on the Ray Richardson radio show several times as a special guest, educating people about Neuroendocrine Cancer.
He worked as a driver for Casella and he took pride in the job he did for all of his customers and for the company.
In the span of a 30-year career as a truck driver, Dean amassed a million miles, accident free.
The people at Higgins Beach loved him so much that they honored him with a "trash" parade when he was first diagnosed in June of 2024 which meant the world to him.
Dean was tenderhearted, a sensitive soul, always making time to chat with customers, throw a dog a ball, give a dog a bone or haul a trash can back to the house for someone in need.
When he was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroendocrine Cancer, he resolved to "beat it, to change the world" and to grow old with Becky.
He fought hard to be included in a medical trial in Boston, hoping he could make a difference and defy odds for cancer patients.
He was valiant and brave and if anybody could have beat the rare disease with hope of heart and the fighting spirit of a warrior it would have been Dean.
He loved life. He and Becky spent many hours driving their sports car, camping, boating, fishing and riding motorcycles. At the campground in Naples, he would make his rounds on the golf cart, and Dean always stopped if someone needed help.
He ran 4 (26-mile) marathons and donated plasma 50 times throughout his lifetime.
Dean and Becky had an enviable and rare love. He was a very rich man indeed, because he had a love that others only dream about, yearn for, but seldom find.
Dean especially loved fishing with his brother David Ferris, and they spent many hours trolling Sebago Lake, entering fishing derby's and sometimes even taking home the trophy.
He leaves behind his wife Becky and his daughter Renee Nowak, and her husband Chris. He leaves behind his son Robert Brown, partner, Rebecca Miller and daughter Payton and four grandchildren.
He leaves behind his brother David Ferris and sister-in-law Michelle and his sister Brenda Sturgis and brother-in-law Gary.
He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him and friends and family who adored him.
He leaves behind his best friend (of over 50-years) Bruce Kenny who was like a brother to him, "Joker and Batman," as they were referred to.
He will be sadly and infinitely missed by all who were honored to be part of his life.
His family takes heart in knowing he has many loved ones who have been waiting patiently for him in Heaven. They are confident his mother was waving and standing at the pearly gates yelling "Yoo-hoo!" as he entered, while his father was standing nearby with a fishing pole in hand.
A funeral will be held at St. Hyacinths Church in Westbrook on Tuesday, July 1st at 10:00AM and a celebration of life immediately following at the reception hall on site.
