Roger was born March 17, 1944 to Aime and Rosalie Bolvin Barr. He attended Westbrook schools and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1962. While there, he was a Class President and Chairman of the school Student Council. He continued his education at the New England Institute of Anatomy in Boston where he acquired a degree in Mortuary Sciences, which was a requirement to becoming a funeral director. During that time, he completed his apprenticeship at Blais Funeral Home in Westbrook after which he became licensed. He also worked per diem for several other funeral homes in the greater Portland area. Roger married Nancy Dugas in 1967. While engaged, she would go out with him on date nights to make removals of deceased individuals and bring them back to the funeral home. It was definitely love. Roger then started a career with the SD Warren Research Facility working in the specialty area. While working at SD Warren, he experienced the owner transitions from Warren to Scott Paper, to Kimberly Clark and later to Sappi. His passion was always to be a people person and he accepted a transfer from the Research Laboratory to Human Resources as its Benefits Manager. He worked his way through all the positions in HR, retiring after 40 years as a Sappi Fine Paper North America Human Resources Manager, reporting to the Vice-President of HR in the Boston Office. After retirement, he continued to work for Sappi for another 7 years as a consultant. While at SD Warren, Roger enlisted in the Maine Air National Guard and served a total of 21 years as a Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of supporting the medical needs of the 265th Combat Communications and 243rd Electronic and Installation squadrons located in South Portland. He officially retired his Air Guard position from the 101st Air Refueling Wing in Bangor. Roger was extremely proud of his military service and was a member of the American Legion Post 62 where he served two terms as Commander. He was also a member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club and served one term as a Past New England Kiwanis Lt. Governor. He was also a member of the Westbrook Eagles. Roger is pre-deceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his sister Therese Bryan, his son Scott and his wife Jennifer, his daughter Denise, and his three grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Thursday August 21, from 5:00 – 7:00PM at the Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee 35 Church St. Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday, August 22, at 11:00AM at St. Hyacinth's Church 268 Brown St. Westbrook. Interment will immediately follow at St. Hyacinth's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Dolby Blais Segee
