Dean A. Frenz, of New Sewickley Township, PA, and Leesburg, FL, and longtime resident of Bradford Woods, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with a series of recent illnesses. He was 81 years old.
Born on March 26, 1944, Dean was the son of the late William and Grace Frenz of West View, PA, and the brother of the late William Frenz of Lemnos, CA. He was preceded in passing by his beloved wife of fifty years, Patti, his high school sweetheart. Dean was the proud and loving father of Timothy (Heather) and Scott (Sondra), and a devoted grandfather to Brian, Allison, Kevin, and Luke.
A standout basketball and football player at Avalon High School, Dean met Patti there and began a lifelong partnership. He attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and later served in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Dean enjoyed a long and successful career with Greentree-based L.B. Foster, beginning as an inside salesman in their Carnegie office and rising to hold several key executive sales and general management positions over 35 years. He concluded his professional career as CEO of Mecco in Cranberry Township.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dean played recreational basketball and volunteered as a youth coach for many years. He was a dedicated fan and season ticket holder for University of Kentucky and University of Pittsburgh basketball, as well as the Pittsburgh Penguins. An avid golfer, he cherished time on the course with his sons, grandsons, and friends in Pittsburgh, Lexington, KY, and Florida.
Throughout his adult life, Dean focused much of his attention on his wife and family, and then enjoyed life as an empty-nester by traveling with Patti (often to the Mirage in Las Vegas) and getting together with friends and neighbors. In recent years, Dean found tremendous support and fulfillment in his connections with his close and extended family and the enduring friendships he developed with both his Liberty Hills and Leesburg communities.
Always quick with a joke (or a "story" as he would call them), Dean's positivity, humor, booming voice and caring nature will be missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family will be received at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry, 2678 Rochester Rd., Cranberry Twp., PA, on Sunday, August 10, from 1–5 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 11, at 10:30 am in the mausoleum at Allegheny County Memorial Park. Please meet at the cemetery.
